What is the Medhashree Scholarship?
The Medhashree scholarship is a pre-metric financial assistance run by the Backwards Classes Welfare Department, Government of West Bengal.

Eligibility Criteria:
Before applying, check the following conditions carefully
- You must be a resident of West Bengal
- You must be studying in classes V to VIII
- You must have a valid OBC certificate, which is recognised by the Backwards Classes Welfare Department
- The school must be a Government, Government-sponsored, or Government-aided school in West Bengal.
- Your family Income is under Rs. 2.5 Lakh
- If a student repeats the same class, the scholarship will not be granted for that class again

- The students who belong to the OBC(Other Backwards Classes) categories and are studying in a government or government-sponsored school within classes V to VIII can directly get Rs 800 in their bank account.
- The financial assistance will help poor students, who can’t afford school stationery, books, or many other items.
- The aid is directly provided by the West Bengal government to the students through DBT(Direct Benefits Transfer).
- After completing Class VIII, students become eligible for the West Bengal Sikshashree Scheme, which provides continued support for higher classes. Together, these two schemes create a long-term safety net for OBC students.

Follow these steps carefully:
- Visit the Official Portal: https://oasis.wb.gov.in/ on your phone or computer.
- Click on “Student’s Registration” On the homepage. You will see a “Students’ Corner” section. Click on “Students’ Registration” to begin.
- Select your District
- Read the Instructions. Click “I Agree” to proceed.
- Enter Caste Certificate details (Caste Certificate Number, the date of issue). Click on submit.
- Log in to your account.
- Fill the Application Form. Enter all required details:
- Personal information (name, date of birth, address)
- Academic details (class, school name, roll number)
- Bank account details (account number, IFSC code)
- Family income details
- Upload required documents.
- Review and submit it.
- Download the acknowledgement after submission, download and save the acknowledgement receipt for future reference and status tracking.

No. The Medhashree Scholarship is only for students in Government, Government-sponsored, or Government-aided schools. Students in fully private schools are not eligible.
6. What happens if I fail and repeat the same class?
If a student repeats the same class, the scholarship will not be given again for that class. The scholarship is granted only once per class level.
7. I already receive the Sikshashree Scholarship, can I also get Medhashree?
No. You cannot receive two pre-matric scholarships at the same time. Since Sikshashree is for students in Class IX and above, Medhashree is for Classes V–VIII only.
